Allamuchy Pond is a 50 acre body of water at the base of the western side of Allamuchy State Park. The pond is known for its fishing. The launch sight is a little tricky when putting in your kayak as it is a bit steep and rocky. Paddling around the pond you may encounter a pair of swans that live on the pond. There are hiking trails that surround the pond. Historic Rutherfurd Hall sits on the northern end of the pond-which part has been converted into a school. Paddling here can be a bit noisy with the busy 517 county road carrying traffic on the western shore of the pond. Allamuchy Pond is a nice short kayaking trip in Northwestern NJ.
